Anxiety, panic & low mood

Anxiety counselling in Cork and online

Anxiety is often a signal that the nervous system is still responding to something that happened in the past. We work on the symptoms, but also look beneath and within. When the underlying trauma is processed, the anxiety tends to ease.

What we work on

Generalised anxiety, overthinking, constant worry, panic attacks and the fear of the next one, health anxiety, social anxiety, work stress and burnout, and the low mood that often travels alongside them. I also help people prepare for court attendance, for interviews, for public speaking engagements, for parenting and life's big events and challenges. I work on single event or complex trauma, fear and anxiety. Grief, loss, early and complex trauma also. Many people arrive to therapy after months or years of trying to manage on their own.

How I work

I'm an integrative therapist — meaning I blend different therapy approaches to best suit the client's presentation. My core modalities are EMDR, Mindfulness, IFS (Internal Family Systems), SE (Somatic Experiencing), CBT and Gestalt.

Therapy here isn't just cognitive — we pay close attention to sensation, emotion, breath, memory and the parts of yourself that show up under pressure. You'll learn to recognise the anxiety cycle early and to interrupt it, using grounding techniques that work in the moment, parts-based awareness, somatic tracking, and processing the traumatic experiences that fuel anxiety.

Where anxiety is rooted in past experience, we may use EMDR to process that directly. The shape of the work is decided by what you bring and what responds — some people need a focused block of sessions, others want longer, deeper work. We'll decide together, and review it as we go.
